If you’re working to build a thriving business, this blog post uncovers seven critical mistakes that could be holding you back—mistakes you might not even be aware of! “Additionally, by eliminating these mistakes, you can accelerate your business progress, even as a beginner
Here are seven mistakes that can hold you back when creating a thriving business.
- Inconsistency: When you are not consistent, those that you want to get into your tribe will end up going to someone else. People want to journey with people they can count on and if you want to grow your business, you have to be someone they can count on to show up on a consistent basis.
- Waiting Too Long to Start: Most often, fear is what causes us to delay launching our business. In reality, fear will always be present as you embark on a new journey, particularly if you’ve never run a business like this before. You don’t want to procrastinate or continue waiting for the “perfect” moment to launch your business or product because it can result in missed opportunities.
Remember, God is not obligated to bring an opportunity back our way just because we’ve waited too long to get started.
- Perfectionism: Perfectionism is another challenge that we face in business and while we should always want to strive for excellence, perfection can lead to delays, increased costs, and missed chances to learn from feedback.
Remember: when you’re just starting out, 70% is perfect, and 100% often leads to failure. Good is good enough to launch!
- Lack of Communication: It is never a problem to have to make changes or pivots in our business. It is a problem if people have an expectation of us or our business and we don’t communicate those pivots to them. Effective communication with your team, partners, and customers is foundational to understanding needs, resolving issues, and fostering strong relationships.
The formula is simple: just do what we say we are going to do or communicate otherwise.
- Spending Too Much Time Doing the Wrong Things: When you are just launching your online business (or any business) and you are a solopreneur, it is easy to get inundated with spending all of your time on the wrong tasks. These tasks, while necessary for business growth, may not require your direct involvement. In other words, as quickly as possible, get someone to do the tasks that are needed for you to grow while you work on the tasks that are needed for you to make money.
- Isolation and Not Connecting to Others: When you are just getting started, the lifeblood of your business and your growth will be centered around networking and connecting with others. That looks like going to events (online and offline), cross promoting, interviews, various communities, etc. This is especially true if your advertising budget is small or nonexistent. Being an entrepreneur is hard enough by itself and we make it even harder by not connecting with other likeminded entrepreneurs.
- Confusing the Mission and the Money: This is an area of growth for a lot of people because we do set out to make money as entrepreneurs. However, as a Believer, if we keep the mission as the focus of what we are doing, God will make room for the money to come. Additionally, the mission has to be true in your heart and only you and God know what’s really in your heart, so do whatever it takes to stay in-line with the mission and the money will come.
This also holds true for entrepreneurs who are so focused on the mission that they don’t care about the money. Even if that is you and the money doesn’t move you, at least care about what the money can do to further your mission. In other words, the money can help the mission to grow to places around the world and that is truly doing God’s will.
My goal is to support you in looking at what you are doing so that you can ask yourself some questions about your business because if anything on this list is hindering you, it can slow down your business growth and your business reach. If we do this right, I believe we will be spreading the good news.
