Introduction
There are multiple reasons why many women hesitate to start their businesses or struggle to grow them. Many of us have a lot of business ideas and maybe you have tried a lot of them, but you are still not where you want to be with your business venture. We are exploring many of those ideas in this blog post.
5 Reasons Why We May Be Stuck
Here are 5 major reasons why many female entrepreneurs are not making the progress that they would like to make with their business.
- Lack of Guidance. If you have a family member who helped launch your business, consider yourself fortunate. Many first-generation business owners lack this support, struggling to navigate the entrepreneurial landscape without a seasoned guide. Most of us don’t have a multimillionaire family member that we can call to walk us through the steps to start, grow, and scale our business. Or, we don’t have someone who can tell us which landmines to avoid, which directions to not go in, what courses won’t help, or even what degree we should major in for college. Because of that, we can find ourselves in a tough spot trying to do this on our own.
- Fear. Fear is a powerful barrier that, based on past experiences, can prevent you from launching your business. It often acts as a shield, keeping your potential hidden. Additionally, it is a trick of the enemy to keep you shrouded in fear so that you won’t be able to share the knowledge and expertise with the world. This is by design.
- Personal Insecurities. Similar to fear, our own insecurities about how we can be received by others can keep us from sharing our message with the world. There are so many mental insecurities that we continue to ruminate over that keep us from moving forward with many areas in life and especially our business.
- Shiny Object Syndrome. Shiny Object Syndrome presents a challenge until we recognize its impact on our focus and decision-making. The real challenge is that we don’t stay with something long enough to give it the opportunity to work. We are constantly looking at the next big thing or what will make us money fast and in reality, it takes time to build a successful business and, in MOST cases, that means years.
- It Didn’t Work Before. Perhaps you’ve tried several business ventures that didn’t yield you the results that you wanted and now, you find yourself more hesitant to get started. Maybe you’ve paid a lot of money in the past and you are still trying to recover financially. This can be a tremendous barrier for moving forward in your business.
3 Choices from the Children of Israel (and how it can relate to our business)
There were three primary choices the Children of Israel had that had an impact on them and future generations. They are as follows:
- Go Back. They could’ve choses to go back to Egypt even though they were hates and they were slaves!
- Do Nothing. Doing nothing caused them to stay in the wilderness.
- Fight. Fighting meant they would have to face GIANTS in order to poses the Promised Land.
Let’s explore #2 and #3 to see how it relates to us in business.
Doing nothing in your business really equates to the following:
- You can (and probably will) end up in the same place next year as you were this year or you may be able to look back and realize you’ve been ‘stuck’ for quite some time and not making the progress you want to make with what you have been called to do.
- Feeling comfort, being complacent, or being content. While these feelings may not have a negative connotation, they absolutely can equate to you not moving forward in the way you have been called to move. They can be just the thing that keeps you from thinking about what you should be doing with your life or your business and in essence, they can be a hinderance for some who are call to do more.
- Always needing to gather more information. For some this also looks like always needing to hear a ‘word from God’ or you are waiting on more confirmation before you get started. While there are people who are cautious by nature, some of us are cautious because we are afraid and that can keep us in the wilderness.
Here’s an undeniable truth: To start, grow, or scale your business, you must conquer your GIANTS! Period. Your giant may look different from the next persons’ giant, but that doesn’t make it smaller by any means.
Your giant can be your bank account. It could be fear or guilt. Your giant can feel like building your business with no support, or even not having a backup plan. Perhaps your giant is in acquiring a different job, or moving across states or even a new relationship. In truth, it doesn’t matter what your giant is…what matters is that you slay it if you want to possess what God has promised you if you walk in His will His way.
In conclusion, I believe starting is the first part. Start the blog or the podcast or doing the videos. It’s not supposed to be perfect from the start. Perfection comes down the road. You have what it takes to build your business and walk in what God has in store, but first, you have to do your part; then, God will show up and do His.
